How to apply for a study permit

To obtain a study permit in Canada, you will need to follow the following steps:

  1. Find a suitable school in Canada and apply for admission.
  2. Obtain an acceptance letter from the school.
  3. Obtain a Quebec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ) if applicable.
  4. Obtain an Immigration Identification Number (IMM number) from Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC).
  5. Apply for a study permit from CIC. You will need to provide proof of financial funds to cover your tuition and living expenses, as well as proof of medical insurance.
  6. Obtain a temporary resident visa if you are from a country that requires one to enter Canada.
  7. Arrive in Canada and present your study permit and all other required documents to the immigration officer at the airport.

It’s important to note that online studies do not require a study permit, and short-term courses or summer courses lasting less than 6 months also do not require one.

If you want to study in Quebec and have received your CAQ, you can now apply for a study permit. This permit will be valid for the duration of your studies, as indicated in the acceptance letter you received. To apply for a study permit, you must have the following documents:
